DKOU - Berlin 2013
DESIGN BRIEF: Design a 20 X 40 Exhibit Booth for DePuy Synthes to be showcased at the DKOU Show in Berlin. DePuy Synthes is a franchise of orthopedic and neurosurgery companies and DKOU is the most important congress in the field of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Germany. Please design an exhibit space that will allow DePuy to showcase the groundbreaking work they have done in orthopedics.
DESIGN INSPIRATION
Internal Structure of bones
Santiago Calatrava's Principe Felipe Science Museum, Spain
The insides of the bone contain trabecular bone which is like scaffolding or a honeycomb. The Principe Felipe Science Museum's interlocking structure of concrete supports and curved spikes triggers the imagination of a concrete skeleton.
THE DESIGN
The external structure of the booth is a stylized version of the internal bone structure. LED strip lights mimic the scaffolding-like structure.
The internal space has a display counter for demonstrations and examples of medical devices.
Meeting areas and display cases flank the main structure, along with storage in the back.
10 x 20 BOOTHS
In these linear examples, the stylized bone structure is achieved with overlays that frame the graphics and contain important information.
Adjustable display cases allow for the storage of medical components as well as offering a surface for the components to be handled and discussed.
In the second example, we see bolder colors used for the scaffolding-style frame, and floor stickers mimic the honeycomb-style shapes created by this frame.
In the corner is a semi-private meeting area sectioned off by a custom screen in the same stylized internal bone structure theme. The screen offers more space for branding or information.
